State dependent processing of reproductive chemosignalsGrant Type: Young Investigator Grant, First Year

A fundamental role of the nervous system is to link appropriate responses to sensory stimuli. However, the right response to a given stimulus also depends on the responding organism’s internal state. To study how internal state modulates the brain’s responses to external cues, I will focus on context dependent reproductive responses. Specifically, I will compare the responses in the brains of sexually receptive (estrus) female mice to the responses in the brains of non-receptive females to the same male stimuli. This study will provide insight on how responses to stimuli in our environments are shaped by our own internal state.
