The American Friends of The National Institute for Psychobiology in Israel, Inc. (“AFNIPI”) is a private charitable foundation organized to provide financial support, grant opportunities, and fellowships to scientists, laboratories, and research centers in the field of psychobiology in Israel. More specifically, AFNIPI funds grants in basic and applied research in brain science in order fight brain disorders and mental illnesses all over the world. AFNIPI's efforts are targeted at helping support veteran researchers and the younger members of the scientific community. Physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, neuroscientists, biologists and chemists in Israel engaged in the study of the brain and its function receive grants from AFNIPI, often at crucial stages of their research. Many recipients have been internationally acclaimed for their discovery of basic brain mechanisms and development of clinical applications in the field of mental health.
AFNIPI also supports conferences and events featuring neuroscience researchers working on cutting edge basic and applied science in order to publicize and create support for AFNIPI's work in particular and brain science in general. AFNIPI’s national, rather than institutional, focus is quite unique among philanthropic initiatives that support biomedical research in Israel. We fund grantees at all Israeli universities, research institutes and major hospitals. The exciting hub of neuroscience in Israel creates and environment that encourages Israeli scientists working overseas to return home.
